HP, Compaq, HP ProBook, HP Envy, HP Pavilion Notebook Computers

Battery Pack Serial Numbers: (Printed on the battery pack itself)

  • 6CGFK^^^^^^^^^
  • 6CGFQ^^^^^^^^^
  • 6CZMB^^^^^^^^^
  • 6DGAL^^^^^^^^^
  • 6DEMA^^^^^^^^^
  • 6DEMH^^^^^^^^^
  • 6EBVA^^^^^^^^^

Product Description: Battery packs supplied with various HP Notebook computers between March 2013 and August 2015. Note: Not all HP Notebook PCs listed above have an affected battery pack.

Defect: In rare instances the affected batteries have the potential to overheat.

Hazard: Risk of fire and burn hazard.

Action Required:

  • Go to the HP Battery Recall website at www.HP.com/go/batteryprogram2016 to validate your battery.
  • If the validation process indicates that your battery is affected, cease use of the battery immediately and remove it from the notebook. HP will provide a replacement battery for each verified, affected battery, at no cost.

    Note: You may continue to use your notebook without the battery installed by connecting the notebook to external power.

HP / Compaq has also now extended their laptop battery recall, so owners should check again to see if their batteries are affected. This is from today's NZ Herald (21 February, 2017) ...

What To Do: It is essential that customers recheck their batteries, even if they did so previously and were informed that they were not affected.

Identification: If you have one of the above listed laptops, and you purchased it between December 2015 and December 2017, your battery may be affected. Please run the HP Battery Program Validation Utility as described below, which will check whether or not the battery in your notebook is affected.

Defect: The affected batteries have the potential to overheat.

Where Product Was Sold: Nationally: online, in-store, and direct contact.

Action Required: 

  • Go to the HP Battery Recall website at www.hp.com/go/batteryprogram2018 and follow the instructions to check your battery.
  • If the process indicates that your battery is not affected, you can continue using your laptop as normal.
  • While, if the process indicates that your battery is affected, please stop using the battery, by placing your laptop in "Battery Safe Mode" (notebook will then work when connected to the HP power adaptor).
  • HP will provide the replacement battery and installation services for each verified, affected battery, at no cost.
